July Food Corner: Bhatti
A monthly review of a Desi food spot in NYC.
Back from my hiatus! Life got busy and who would’ve known it’s harder to schedule a restaurant review than a chai one. This month’s pick, Bhatti Indian Grill, is part of a larger and infamous desi institution in the city—Curry Hill. If you’ve ever wandered down Lexington between 27th and 28th, you know what I mean. I showed up on a rainy June afternoon, which felt like the perfect excuse for a cozy, no-frills meal.
The Non-Veg, Veg Stack:
There’s a sacred stack that I have when it comes to North Indian comfort food: a ~1:1 ratio of veg and non-veg, and at least one order of naan. My go to is one paneer dish, one chicken dish, and a garlic naan, so that’s what I went for when dining at Bhatti.
And listen: I’m picky about North Indian food. If it’s not a “fine dining “ take on Indian food, the margin for error is paper-thin. But Bhatti came through. The pappad hit the spot, the chicken was delectable, and the paneer had the perfect texture and spice level.
When you’re not in the mood to fight for a reservation at a Dhamaka, Semma, Bungalow type, the restaurants in Curry Hill hits the spot—and Bhatti should definitely make your list.
